3D SASI
SASI in Three Dimensions

- Hydrodynamics Code
- VH-1, an ideal gas dynamics code based on the PPMLR algorithm
- Slab decomposition and MPI for parallel communications
- Yin-Yang overset spherical grids avoid coordinate singularity of z axis
- 360 (logarithmically spaced) radial zones from 0.3 to 3.0 (shock at 1.0)
- angular resolution of 0.77 degrees
- explicit conservation of angular momentum
- explicit conservation of total energy including fixed gravitational potential
- dissipation at stationary shock front to minimize numerical noise
- Initial Conditions
-
- Highly supersonic infall at constant mass accretion rate from outer boundary
- reflecting boundary at inner radius (stellar surface)
- 'optically thin' cooling parameterized by alpha=1.5, beta=2.5
- strength of cooling is adjusted to place the steady-state shock at a radius of 1.0
- Diagnostics
