Two-Dimensional Hydrodynamic Models

The interaction of the supernova blastwave with the circumstellar shell described in our model is expected to be dynamically unstable. We are running 2D hydrodynamic simulations to investigate the effects of this unstable interaction. The image at left depicts the initial conditions, with the self-similar blastwave about to impinge on the circumstellar shell.

In this first simulation we began with a uniform density shell. The inner surface is roughened in order to seed the Richtmeyer-Meshkov instability expected when the forward shock impacts the density discontinuity of the inside edge of the shell. (1.3 Mb MPEG) -->
