Mike Malinowski

Mike began working with Dr. Blondin during the summer of 1993 on hydrodynamical simulations of the binary star system Algol. Mike continues to interact with the Astrophysics group as he pursues his BA in Physics from NCSU. His research on Algol and other binary star systems has involved running two dimensional hydrodynamic simulations on local workstations. He has developed codes to monitor the angular momentum in the transient accretion disks seen in the simulations, and to produce line emission profiles based on the results of the simulations.

Mike has presented this work at the 183rd Meeting of the American Astronomical Society, at the SPS section of the SouthEastern Section of the American Physical Society meeting, and at the NCSU Undergraduate Research Symposium in the spring of 1994. This research is to be published in The Astrophysical Journal in April of 1995. A preprint of this paper is available online in the NCSU Astrophysics Preprint Library.

Mike graduated from NCSU in the spring of 1995, and is now working in nearby Research Triangle Park.
