These two images are X-ray and radio pictures of Cassiopeia A, the youngest (about 350 years old) known supernova remnant in the Galaxy.

Supernova remnants are the ejected remains of a supernova. Click here for more information about what a supernova remnant actually is.

Supernova remnants are our specialty here at NC State. We study the global dynamics of SNRs, develop detailed models of the radio and X-ray emission from SNRs, and investigate the acceleration of cosmic rays at the fast shocks associated with SNRs. Click the links to the left of the page to for more information about the research that we do here at NC State. A sampling of some of our publications can also be found.
