REPEATING STELLAR JETS
A group research project for PY 228 students.
We will explore the hypothesis of Bally & Devine (Astrophysical Journal, 428, L65)
that the apparent linear string of Herbig-Haro objects in Orion are the
consequence of a quasi-periodic, collimated outflow originating from
the young stellar object known as HH 34*. We will investigate the
dynamics and appearance of such a repeating stellar jet using
hydrodynamical simulations performed on the Cray Y/MP at
the
North Carolina Supercomputing Center.
This project is broken down into 5 different task groups:
A Bibliography of recent research on
Herbig-Haro Objects and Stellar Jets.
An online HH34
and
HH33/40.
