USER RESPONSIBILITIES
Each MCNC user assumes responsibilities when using the computer resources
at the Information Technologies Division of MCNC.
- Only work that has received prior authorization is permitted. Programs
and data of a personal nature are inappropriate. Users should be
prepared to justify that all programs and data are directly related to
authorized projects.
- It is illegal to distribute software without the approval of the
owner. Ownership of software at MCNC is as follows:
- Software developed under the MCNC industrial participation
program is owned by the developer, except as may be
otherwise specified by prior written agreement.
- Software made available to MCNC users may be public-domain or
proprietary. Proprietary software is licensed for use at
MCNC and carries a notification as to its proprietary
nature. Special authorization may be required to enable
users to access such software, and users must abide by the
requirements for protecting it from misuse. Public-domain
software may also have restrictions on use, copying, or
distribution. It is the user's responsibility to determine
applicable restrictions and to abide by them.
- Users are
expected to acknowledge MCNC support in resulting publications and to
furnish MCNC with a copy of the published articles.
- Users are solely responsible for the security of their programs and
data. If you are storing sensitive data, please contact Information
Technologies Operations. Each user is cautioned to protect his or her
password(s); passwords must never be shared. Several users can work on
one group account; however, each user should be assigned a separate login
and password. Users who believe a password has been compromised should
change their password immediately.
